No sooner had the floods subsided - not before doing enough damage to ScotRail's Far North line to close it for several days - than the first snow of 2025 arrived, laying a thin carpet to mop up the last of the rain before....
....turning much more serious and depositing a further three inches or so, then freezing the mix solid. For the cattle in the field near us it was misery, made worse by........the difficulty the farmer had in getting his small van up a track severely eroded by the floods. We took a very careful walk up into the forestry this morning, finding plenty of rabbit tracks further up the hill and a few deer tracks, probably roe deer. The forecast is for this weather to continue, cold but sunny days with some more snow, followed by even colder nights.
