It was 22C in the shade in our back garden this afternoon, not a breath of wind, and not a cloud in the sky - but the butterflies weren't taking advantage of it. If we'd still been reporting to the Big Butterfly Count we would have listed two small whites, a red admiral and a peacock (above).
Meanwhile, above us, the swallows were swooping across the sky and chittering with excitement; and then landing on the roof of a neighbouring property, a sure sign that they're thinking of Africa.
