Loch Lunndaidh

We walked the long track up to Loch Lunndaidh yesterday morning, a frustrating walk as the low mist refused to clear to allow the heather, which is currently at its best, to show off its colours.

As with all our country walks, I like to have an objective but, with our son staying for a few days from Canada, I was anxious that he should see three things....

....an osprey fishing on the loch, which was beautifully calm, an adder, of which there are still plenty around, and....

....the kingfisher.

Frustratingly, we saw none of them, particularly as, when staying with our son in Canada, we see all sorts of exciting wildlife in their neighbourhood including coyotes, porcupines, and beaver in the river that slices through the city.

So we walked home disappointed - but then it's often that way: when you want to see something there's no sign of it, and when you're not expecting something....

....like, on this morning's walk, a red squirrel, it pops into view.
