The current yo-yoing weather patterns brought us a fine day today and the first dusting of snow on Ben Bhraggie, the hill that dominates the town and which is crowned - or some would say, marred - by a huge statue of George Leveson-Gower, first Duke of Sutherland. It also brought our first sighting in a long time of....
....a mistle thrush. It was one of two feeding in the ploughed field to the north of the Golspie Burn and was, sadly, far too wary for me to approach near enough for a good photograph.
The wildlife may not have been too obliging but the morning sun transformed the countryside. This is to the north of Golspie, with Dunrobin Castle on the right and another of the houses belonging to the Sutherland Estate on the left.
The sun may have been kind to us but he has a short day. By four he had already set across the mudflats in front of the town and shortly afterwards....
....his place in the sky was taken by a full moon, seen here rising above Dunrobin.
