We have a lot of very excited swallows around at the moment. If they're not sitting on the telephone wires chattering about the journey ahead they're playing games, like visiting the perch the house martins used when they were nesting under the eave.
The swallow who started the game stayed firmly on the drainpipe while....
....more and more of its friends came by, until....
....there must have been upward of a dozen zooming around.
A mass of house martins were in the skies above the house while we were sitting up in bed enjoying our morning cup of tea but by the time we came downstairs they had gone. They weren't the only ones on the move today as....
....we also watched the first skein of geese pass over us, heading south.
