Enough!

I've reached the annual milestone which bears the inscription "I've Had Enough of Winter!" Just a few days ago we enjoyed some sunny weather which rather raised our hopes but we're now back under the cosh of a cold, grey, damp and penetrating easterly and, if the forecast is correct, likely to stay under it for some days to come.

To escape it we walked this morning in Golspie Glen, the burn much reduced in volume compared to a few days ago, finding little sign of spring other than....

....a few green shoots on a few of the trees. There was no sign of spring flowers other than some snowdrops: not even a daisy to cheer us. Nor was there much in the way of the alternative flowers, by which I mean....

....the fruiting bodies of the fungi. This was one of only three species we found, all brackets, this one growing out of a rotten branch of a silver birch.

It's been a disappointing winter for fungi - with the one exception of the scarlet elf cups, which have had a spectacular season.
