The girl who lived in the flat next door to us in the Radford Street in Stone was called Anita Synovec. She was an American from Detroit, a potter who had a one-year placement at the Wedgwood factory in Barlaston. Wedgwood gave students like Anita the chance to experiment even though Anita's stoneware was highly unlikely ever to become part of their range, though at least two of her pots are in the Wedgwood Museum - link here.
We came to know Anita well and liked her. At the end of our time in the flat she gave us one of her pots and, somehow, it has survived fifty years of use and many moves. It's slightly chipped but we still use it for things like salads.
We haven't kept in touch so we don't know what happened to Anita but do hope that life treated her well.
