Hastings Visits 1983-84

Through 1983 and 1984 we visited Hastings regularly. Sometimes we would drive half way with the children and meet their Granny and Grandpa in a pub, after which we would return to Maldon for a few days without them before driving down to Hastings to pick them up.

Their grandparents were extremely good with them. Granny enjoying playing cards and taking them to interesting places, particularly castles, or down to the beach. Grandpa, who was at times a bit waspish, had always wanted daughters of his own - Richard and I were, in that regard at least, a bit of a disappointment to him - so he particularly enjoyed teasing Lizzie and Katy, although...

....he and David got on very well together.

These pictures were almost certainly taken during 1983 as the date on the slides is February 1984.

Many of the photos I took in the 80s and 90s were on 35mm slides, mostly because I used some of them in teaching geography. Although I now have a small machine which copies them to .jpg files, it isn't always kind to the pictures, particularly the contrast.

I can't remember why Elizabeth doesn't seem to have been on any of the pictures of the 1983 visit but she was in Hastings for the 1984 summer holiday.
