The sandy beach to the south of Golspie is a dog's paradise, with miles of sand to race over, the sea to splash through, lots of waders and other birds to chase, and plenty of other dogs and their owners to meet. We come across them as they often come bounding up to us, ignoring their owner's calls to come back or not to jump up.
On such an expanse of sand one would have thought that the simple and most hygienic thing to do with a dog's offerings would have been to bury it an inch or so in the sand and leave the next tide to remove it. Anything, frankly, is better than this.
This picture was taken a couple of days ago. Today, the plastic bag is sitting on the high-tide line where, when it finally breaks open, it will deposit the poo on the sand and leave some green plastic to join the rest of the plastic clogging up our oceans.
Despite the best efforts of a few thoughtless people, Golspie beach is remarkably free of litter and, particularly, of plastic, though we do come across the occasional piece.
