We walk this section of road above Golspie Tower fairly frequently so noticed that part of the wall had fallen since we last passed, but then spotted something about twenty metres away in the field, just this side of the marsh grass.
It turned out to be a dead muntjac deer but what drew us closer was what appeared to be wire round its neck. Our immediate reaction was that the deer had been caught in a snare but a closer look showed that the wire was too loose around its neck to have killed it. Only then did we notice....
....that everything we did was being recorded on a trail cam.
From the damage to the deer's left hind leg, it's possible it fell and broke it when jumping the wall, and managed to stagger a few metres further before collapsing, after which someone put the wire round its neck to prevent it being pulled away and set up the trail cam, presumably to see what scavenged the remains.
