The land between Golspie's caravan park and golf course, just to the southeast of the village, looks very similar to the links around Littleferry, where we found the first Sutherland orchids last Tuesday - see earlier post here. The sandy ground is carpeted with egg-and-bacon and there are also bright patches of....
....purple milk vetch which, when it's at its best, is similar both in colour and shape to the Littleferry early purple orchids. We'd already noticed that the area also has....
....some of the dried remains of last year's orchids, which we suspected were frog orchids, but very close to them we finally found....
....the first Golspie orchid, followed by....
....several more. The area isn't as prolific in orchids as Littleferry but its orchids do, in my view, have the distinction of being a slightly different shade of purple, a little more pink. Compare this Golspie orchid to....
....these two at Littleferry.
