Big Eggs

To buy our eggs we take the road up through Golspie Tower, cross the Golspie Burn and continue up into the crofting community of Backies where....

....on a quiet junction there's....

....a post box, a pile of road salt, the nearby house's wheelie bin and a small wooden cupboard which usually....

....contains a dozen or so eggs and a tin in which to leave money.

We don't think its chickens from the house on the corner which produce the eggs but those on a croft just along the road, a croft which shows every sign of recent hard work and improvement - George Sutherland would have been proud of them.

The eggs are big and brown and fresher and probably freer-range and, at £1.50 a half dozen, much better value than those from the supermarket. The only drawback is that we sometimes walk up to find that the cupboard is bare.
