Farlary - 1

We spent this morning wandering the paths that are so generously available to the public on Farlary Croft, a short drive inland from Golspie, enjoying more and more of the views into the Sutherland hills as the sun burnt away the early low cloud. We were reminded however that the seasons are moving on, first by....

....the passage of a skein of geese calling to each other as they headed south and then by....

....the huge selection of fungi which seemed to be growing in every environment, from closely-cropped grass through....

....rougher grass, and then everywhere both....

....on the edge of and....

....deep within the croft's coniferous....

....and deciduous forestry.

I'm overwhelmed now by the variety of fungi we're finding locally, to the extent that I've given up worrying too much about identification in favour of simply enjoying their fragile or sometimes rather bizarre beauty.

However, they too have their season, and as winter tightens its grip this abundance will come to an end.
