Siskins

We have at least three siskins coming in to the garden on a daily basis, one male and two females. They're amongst the prettiest of the small garden birds, hardly still for a moment, and with some strange eating habits which include....

....a distinct preference for eating upside down, even when there's absolutely no need for it, but....

....one really does wonder why this male had to contort himself. Was there one particular peanut that caught his fancy, which is odd because usually the peanuts at the bottom of the feeder are the oldest, soggiest and most likely to be rotten?

Peanuts seem to be their favourite food but they also come to the the bird table to take seed, particularly the sunflower hearts, and they've endeared themselves to me by....

....eating some of the nyjer so neglected by the goldfinches.
