Here's another first for the year, the first willow warbler heard this morning while walking up the track beyond our house.
Sometimes I'm not 100% certain it is a willow warbler as some of the local chaffinches have a very similar call, though theirs is much louder and harsher. However, these days, I can be certain of the identification because....
....I have the wonders of the Merlin app to help me.These tiny birds, each weighing somewhere between 7 and 15 grammes, have just travelled over 6,000km from countries south of the Sahara including Ghana, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.
