Elizabeth at Ludlow

That we had family all around us made a huge difference after our years 'alone' in Rhodesia. Although Elizabeth wasn't the first grandchild for either set of grandparents, she was much loved. Here she is seen with Gill's mother, Bea, and Bea's mother, at Cranham.

My father had always wanted a daughter and now he had two grand-daughters to spoil, Samantha and Elizabeth.

Lizzie continued to enjoy the good things in life, including the privilege of licking out the cake mixing bowl. She developed a peculiar habit: whenever a photo was taken and she was asked to say, "Cheese!" she held out her left hand. This picture was taken in the very pleasant little garden at the back of No 1, as was....

....this one, where Lizzie is clutching a doll which I well remember and which appears in several photos, yet, sadly, no-one can remember her name.

Lizzie continued to be a very happy and contented child, with a great sense of fun. She had a bit of a thing about her potty - it appears in more than one photograph. This one was taken in the sitting room with its very 1960s carpet. In both this and the next picture Lizzie is wearing knitted tops made by my mother.

Lizzie also had her determined side. Here she is at Little Heath, the house at the back of Hastings to which my parents had moved from the flat in All Saints Street, again clutching 'Blue Doll'.
