Bitossi Ceramics

In the summer of 1965, while we were both still at Keele, Gill and I drove her Morris 1000 down through France, crossed the Alps into Italy, and motored south along the west coast until we found a pleasant beach-side campsite near the small town of Castiglione. On a visit to the town we bought two pieces of what we now know to be Bitossi 'Rimini Blue' pottery, an ash tray and a plant pot.

We had thought that the pottery came from Castiglioni but in fact it was, and is still made by the Bitossi family in Montelupo Fiorentino near Florence. Each piece is hand-made and, because we have always been very careful of them, both are in perfect condition.

We love the pieces, not least because they remind us of our first foreign adventure together.
