The Deer

Gill bought this statuette of a deer in Chateauroux when she was thirteen and staying with Genevieve Langlois, her French pen friend. She says she bought it simply because she liked it.

On the underside it has the word 'bronze' and the name Schorr. Gill knew nothing about its maker but the internet tells us that is was a Raoh Schorr (1901-1991), a man of Swiss/French origin. The style of the deer is 'original Art Deco', and it is made of bronze finished with a green patina.

It must have cost Gill a few francs but it's a beautiful piece which we've had on prominent display in all our houses.
