In the damp confines of the coniferous forestry on the lower slopes of Beinn Bhraggie the ling is in flower, vying for space and sunlight with the bracken, while deeper down in this dripping vegetational morass....
....autumn fungi are coming in to their own. There's a profusion of species many of which, like this one, appear to have been chewed by some passing beast, and it's only........the young and vigorous which have escaped. Perhaps........there's a clue to the culprit to the right in this picture, a small slug which seems slimily at home on the fungus' slimy surface.
