A Quiet Beach

It's still warm enough for us to take a break on our morning walk, settle ourselves on a convenient rock on the beach, look out to sea, and allow time to pass gently by. There's little of excitement on Golspie beach at present but it makes up for it by being almost deserted of humans - we passed three people in a couple of hours walking on the sands. Not that the wildlife exploits this as we saw little except....

....a few very relaxed oystercatchers, most standing on one leg and very reluctant to move, and....

....small groups of ducks - rafts I think they're called - feeding offshore. As well as eider there were some long-tailed ducks, most in drab plumage but with....

....one or two of the males looking very smart in their breeding plumage. They're a winter visitor and were around last December - see post here - but not in the numbers we saw today.
