A Lone Dolphin

We've just returned from a walk of a mile or so along Gospie's south beach, it having had some of its sand returned by the sea since we last saw it some weeks ago.

The beach was, as always, very deserted, with a few dog walkers and little in the way of wildlife except for....

....a flock of four sanderlings and fifteen oystercatchers along the wave line and, offshore, three long tailed ducks, a pair of guillemots, two small groups of eider and, much to our surprise....

....a lone dolphin.

We first saw it much closer inshore, lying at the surface, not moving, and assumed it was a drifting log - which meant that the best photo was missed. When it did start to move it seemed in no hurry, working its way slowly in the direction of Littleferry. Dolphins usually move in pods so I'm not sure what its 'loneliness' means: is it likely to be sick?
