Butterflies!

Today we had more butterflies in the garden than we've had on any summer's day this year, three to be precise, of which one, this very smart little tortoiseshell, made my day by spending a great deal of time on the buddleia which we planted primarily for the enjoyment of the local butterflies.

The others were a white, which would have made a wonderful picture if it had spent just a little longer on the bright yellow marigold it was investigating, and....

....a butterfly which solved the mystery of the species of butterfly which remained unidentified after our walk on the slopes of Beinn Bhraggie yesterday. It fed for some time on a lobelia, long enough for the sun to come out and encourage it to open its wings to reveal the very characteristic spot of a meadow brown.
