Strathpeffer

For the first time in well over a year we travelled outside the immediate Golspie area, to meet family at Stathpeffer. Just outside the town there's relatively gentle walking in Strathmuir Woods, along a track which gives fine all-round views to....

...distant, snow-covered hills like Beinn Wyvie. Not that we stayed on the track - we were soon on much steeper paths which led up through forestry to....

....the summit of Cnoc Mor. This is the site of a small, circular hill fort - now lost under vegetation - and a trig point, so must once have been open in every direction.

Happily, we were able to find a small clearing in the trees which gave views to the west across countryside which might well have been Switzerland, where we lay in the heather to talk, eat our picnic, and let time slide gently by.
