It's been an exciting afternoon. First several ambulances travelled north through the village along the A9. Then a helicopter came over low, travelling northwards, and circled over Backies before landing beyond the forestry on the lower slope of the hill.
Some time later, a Coastguard helicopter arrived and hovered over the area where the first helicopter had landed. It then set off to circle the Golspie area for over an hour. The small helicopter then took off and landed on the rugby pitch close to our house, where it was met by paramedics in a car. Several items, and one of the paramedics, were loaded onto the helicopter before........it set off south, followed a few minutes later........by the Coastguard helicopter.Forget about the small helicopter and this would have been a standard casualty evacuation by HM Coastguard, but the small helicopter belongs to a private firm, Gama Aviation. On its website, here, Gama Aviation says, "Gama Aviation support extends across a number of sectors which include: special mission, technology & outsourcing and business aviation. We serve private individuals, corporations and governments, all of which require bespoke solutions to what are often complex, time critical missions." The mystery deepens - or perhaps it's just on hire to the ambulance service or police.
