Sparrowhawk Breakfast

Saturday's breakfast was disturbed when the resident sparrowhawk visited the garden causing consternation amongst the mass of small birds feeding on the seed which had just been put out. How he missed catching one is a mystery: if he'd flown in with his eyes closed and his claws extended he couldn't have missed.

As it was he sat on the wall peering around perplexedly while we enjoyed the pleasure watching him from a few feet away. Finally he took off, flying across the field towards the trees away to the back of the house, followed by flurry of small birds all tweeting, "Yah, boo, sucks - you missed us!"

Despite this momentary bravery the birds then went to cover and it was almost exactly half-an-hour before the first reappeared, this robin taking the opportunity of enjoying the pick of the seed while....

....a blue tit emerged to have its favourite peanut feeder to itself.
