Lunchtime Entertainment

In one of the bright sunny breaks between today's snow showers we were watching two gulls out on the playing field by our house when one seized the other and a tussle began.  We weren't sure whether they were being amorous - in which case we needed to do something about the chimney to make sure they didn't nest there - or whether....

....they were having a fight which, when things started to become quite violent....

....seemed the more likely.

The scrap continued for several minutes with the two fairly evenly matched....

....rolling around on the ground and, at times, upside down until....

....one of them managed to get a killer hold at which point the other, with its opponent's beak....

....in its eye, managed to break off the fight and fly away.

We were interested spectators and so were a couple more seagulls. Perhaps they were the females and these were two males deciding who was going to have first choice of bride for this season.
