Gordonbush

We drove the five miles to Brora this morning, then turned inland off the A9 to follow the winding, single-track road up Strath Brora, last night's hard frost still very evident anywhere the sun hadn't reached. The original idea was to park then....

....cross the Brora river by this old suspension bridge to walk on the Kilbraur side but we chose not to, not out of any nervousness at the rickety state of the bridge but because the land on the other bank was criss-crossed by deer fencing, so we....

....returned to the road and took a track on the north side of the strath. This winds gently up into the high land, passing....

....this neat little farmhouse.

The track was built to develop the Gordonbush wind farm which was completed in 2012 and now consists of 35 turbines. It's set on bleak, windswept moorland which, at this time of year, is inhabited by a few small birds and, much to our pleasure, a herd of....

....red deer which, although one of them spotted us quite quickly, allowed us to approach until....

....they decided we were a little too close for comfort.

We haven't seen red deer in ages so this sighting, and the gloriously sunny weather and light winds, really made our day.
