Butterflies

We enjoyed a short but heavy shower of rain early yesterday afternoon, after which we found no less than nine red admirals in the garden, all on just one of several buddleia bushes still in flower. These were joined by....

....a peacock - we haven't seen one of them in some weeks - and two whites; but the painted lady was missing.

Then, this morning, walking to the village through a sunlit Speckled Wood, we saw plenty of speckled woods on the wing, most doing their usual thing of....

....waiting for passing rivals while soaking up the sun on stalks of long grass, but others were doing something we've noticed before in autumn....

....perching on low-hanging branches.

It was a very enjoyable walk in the warmth and sunshine, made even better by an encounter with....

....a very annoyed red squirrel: we had disturbed it before it had reached one of the nut feeders which local residents put out for their, and therefore our, benefit.
