We've often noticed that piles of seaweed tend to collect at high tide in the angle between the harbour arm and the town's breakwater, the weed having been washed there from along Golspie's south beach. Local gardeners take advantage of this bounty, backing their cars down the slipway to load some first-class, free fertiliser.
We've also seen the way the local bird population also takes advantage of an opportunity. Gulls are often there, as are oystercatchers and....
....groups of redshanks.
They're all very busy feeding on something that is being washed in with the seaweed, something very tasty but which we've not been able to identify.
What is less clear is why a very smart mallard drake and....
....his well-camouflaged mate seem to enjoy the spot, except perhaps simply to rest in amongst the comfortable piles of seaweed.
