Readership

Towards the bottom of the right-hand column of this blog there's a count of the number of 'pageviews' in the last seven days. A 'pageview' is counted every time someone opens the blog or clicks at the bottom on 'older' or 'newer' posts, there being five posts on each 'page'.

This is the fifth blog I have kept. The most popular, judging by the 'pageviews', was the Kilchoan Diary which, even though it hasn't had an entry since August 2017, today still attracts over a thousand 'pageviews' a week.

I'm not particularly worried about how many 'pageviews' the Memory Wanderer attracts as it is mainly written for the enjoyment of our family, though I would probably give it up if it regularly attracted only a handful. Normally, it's doing well when it attracts a hundred a week, but something has happened in the last few days to cause its 'pageviews' to leap to over one and a half thousand.

Google is kind enough to provide a statistics section - shown above - which gives some information about the blog's readers, and it shows that the sudden surge is in readers in the USA. The same once happened with the Diary when, intriguingly, the surge came from Russia.

I'm not particularly bothered about what's happening except that it does give me some pleasure if these readers are enjoying what I'm writing. It's what a writer always hopes for.
