The Almost Deserted Scalps

Last time I walked the edge of Tain scalps (here) - that's the Dornoch bridge in the distance - the significant decrease in the numbers of wildfowl working the mudflats seemed a sign of the seasons, and today's visit continued the trend, with few curlew and redshanks, none of the smaller waders such as sanderling and ringed plovers, no wigeon, and the only other ducks....

....one or two rather lonely shelduck and....

....very small groups of up to half a dozen nervous teal. It would have been a disappointing visit except for one thing....
