We've been looking for an osprey nest in Balblair Woods for a year and a half and today finally succeeded in finding one - with an osprey sitting in it. But it must have seen us as....
....it immediately took off and we were left to enjoy....
....an empty nest. However, a bit of patience and uncomfortable concealment in a gorse bush resulted in....
....one of the parents returning to the nest although....
....it then spent several minutes looking very unsettled....
....peering around as if it knew we were there. Finally it seemed satisfied and, to our great pleasure....
....first one chick appeared and then, just visible the right of the first....
....a second chick.
Information about the Balblair ospreys is difficult to come by but, having talked to several people we've met in the woods, there may be a second nest. Certainly, at the moment there is no shortage of ospreys wheeling high above the woods.
