A Walk Around Dunrobin

We walked in Dunrobin woods this morning, through varied deciduous planting which masks thousands of years of previous land use: there's the remains of a large stone wall running across this picture which winds for miles through the trees, the remnants, perhaps, of ancient fortifications.

A network of tracks and paths run through the woods, the one we followed today being relatively new to us so it was a pleasant surprise to find that the falling leaves had revealed a small lake with two islands in it, perhaps at one time a pleasure lake for those resident in the castle. Now it lies deep in the woods, forgotten except by the half dozen or so mallard that call it home.

Walking home along the coast track below the castle we stopped to watch gulls feeding on something, perhaps small crustaceans, being washed out of the rotting seaweed along the shore, the greediest risking....

....a rolling in the surf.
