This is Littleferry on a bright day with the tide flooding in through the entrance to Loch Fleet. A mass of waders have gathered on the sandbanks as far from shore and the passing humans and their dogs as possible. On the nearer of the two banks....
....stands an increasingly tightly bunched mix of oystercatchers and knots with the occasional watching gull, but....
....the tide is steadily rising across the sand.
One by one the oystercatchers set off to walk round to the next bank, which is higher, but the knots, observed by a passing file of eider, hold their....
....increasingly damp ground, perhaps in the hope that the tide is about to turn, which....
....it isn't. By this time almost all the oystercatchers have left the sinking ship but it takes a state of....
....near drowning for the knots finally to admit that a move is a necessity, so....
....they go the quick way, flying over to rejoin the oystercatchers.
