Walking the miles of carefully prepared tracks at Croft 43, Farlary, seems almost like cheating - we should be out working our way across the open moorland - but at our age these walks are.... prudent. The croft also, because of its variety of habitats, is exceptional for the wildlife it encourages, including today....
....this warbler which wasn't the slightest bothered by us even though we passed less than ten metres away. I can't identify warblers unless they sing but this one could only manage "cheep.... cheep."There were plenty of fungi to interest us including this large pored specimen, species unknown, and........this, which I assume is either a fungus or a mould. It's about 15mm across and there were several others similar, all scattered along one of the gravelled tracks where it crossed open moorland. This frog, one of three we spotted, all less than 20mm long, crossed our path in a series of mighty bounds. I wish I had such energy. We were at Farlary for over two hours, alternately walking and taking advantage of the benches provided. Although access to the four miles of paths is free and there's a good car park provided, we saw not another soul. The croft has a cottage to let - link here.
