We were walking along the beach near Dunrobin Castle this morning, looking out across the still waters of the firth towards Embo when....
....beyond the line of resident cormorants preening themselves on the rocks we saw a dorsal fin cutting the water. The sighting was frustratingly distant but we could see that there was a minimum of four individuals in the pod. However, I'm still unsure as to what we were looking at. They could have been dolphins but the height and shape of the........dorsal fin suggests that they might, just might have been orcas. This is even more frustrating as orcas aren't as common here as they are to the north of us, and I have never knowingly seen one.
As we walked on home a small skein of geese passed noisily overhead, the first we have seen in this changing season, and........an excited family of swallows were lined up on the fence chattering away, obviously preparing for their departure south.
