More Firsts

Here's a very important first. This isn't the first sighting of a tortoiseshell - that happened some weeks ago, though there have been few around since - but this is the first butterfly to settle on a flower in our new garden which we're planting for the benefit of insects.

Meanwhile, down by the shore the first egg-and-bacon plants are in flower while, in the woods....

.....the first campion are out.
