How very fortunate we are that our daily journey to the shops is usually a half-hour walk through a range of habitats in which, as we did today, we stand a good chance of seeing....
....deer cropping the grass in one of the farmer's fields, and........a red squirrel or two which have done well through the winter on the nuts and other food put out by local house owners, and we're quite likely to see........an interesting bird or two - this is the first wheatear of the year - and........be continually amazed at how wonderfully these creatures can blend into their environment. All this to the background song of the birds and roar of the RAF's Typhoons practising their gunnery on the range which lies on the other side of the Dornoch Firth.
